Jessica Brown Findlay cast in Sadie Jones’s The Outcast

written by Ana on 09 September 2014

Jessica Brown Findlay has been cast in a new two-part adaptation of Sadie Jones’s The Outcast on BBC One.

Jones has based the script on her own Costa First Novel Award-winning book. The 2×90 minute drama also stars George Mackay, Greg Wise and Hattie Morahan.

It will be produced by Blueprint Pictures and directed by Iain Softley.

Head of BBC Films Christine Langan said: “The Outcast is a captivating and heart-breaking story of a young man’s desperate situation.

“I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to work with BBC One to bring a two-part adaptation to screen to retain the essence of Sadie Jones’s award-winning novel.”

Mackay plays Lewis, who is 10 years old when his mother Elizabeth (Morahan) dies, leaving him his father Gilbert (Wise) who he barely knows.

Gilbert remarries Alice (Brown Findlay), while Lewis relies on his friendships with neighbouring children Tamsin and Kit (Daisy Bevan and Jessica Barden).

The Outcast is described as “a deeply romantic, uncomfortably honest coming-of-age story set in booming post-war Britain”.

BBC One has debuted a new trailer for upcoming drama Jamaica Inn

The promo sees Downton Abbey star Jessica Brown Findlay take on the role of Mary in the period drama.

Set in 1820s Cornwall, Jamaica Inn follows Mary as she is drawn into a world of smuggling and romance.

Matthew McNulty (Misfits), Sean Harris (Southcliffe) and Ben Daniels (House of Cards) will also star in the adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s novel, penned by The White Queen’s Emma Frost.

The series – which began filming in Cornwall, Yorkshire and Cumbria last September – also stars Joanne Whalley (Gossip Girl) and Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter).

Scriptwriter Frost said: “I love Daphne du Maurier’s novels and it’s been a lifelong dream to adapt Jamaica Inn.

“I hope I have done justice to this wonderful tale of morality, survival and desire.

“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to adapt it for the screen, and I’m tremendously excited to see how our talented cast and director bring the scripts to life.”

New Jamaica Inn Photo

written by Ana on 07 April 2014

We have added a new HQ photo of Jess filming Jamaica Inn, thanks to Westmorland Gazette for the photo and this nice read.

The wait is over for South Lakeland residents keen to catch a glimpse of themselves or their home town on television. The dates have been announced for the screening of the BBC’s adaptation of Jamaica Inn, which was partly filmed in Kirkby Lonsdale using local people as extras.

“Kirkby Lonsdale looks set to be the quietest town in South Lakeland during Easter week!” said town council chairman Allan Muirhead. “Now we know the transmission dates, you can bet practically everyone in town will be tuning in for three nights’ viewing to see how it all turned out.”

The programme, which saw the town transformed into a 19th Century Cornish village for a week of filming, is set to be shown in three parts from Easter Monday, April 21. It will be shown in hour-long episodes, of which around 15 minutes will of the South Lakeland town’s Market Square, where fake shop fronts and tons of mud were installed to wind back the clock to 1820.

“We didn’t recognise parts of the town used for filming once they’d built false shop fronts,” continued Coun Muirhead. “It will be fun trying to spot ourselves.” The filming took place last October and saw stars Jessica Brown Findlay and Ben Daniels descend with a crew to film exterior shots. The adaptation of the Daphne du Maurier novel saw several residents chosen as extras, while hundreds more turned out to watch filming take place.

“We’ll have to watch very carefully!” added Coun Muirhead. A one-off event is now set to be hosted on Saturday (April 12) when the show’s producer, Dan Winch, will give a talk about ‘the making of Jamaica Inn’. One of the revelations is expected to be why the Cumbrian location was chosen rather than Launceston, where the book is set.

Accepting an invitation from town represenatives, Mr Winch said: “I’m so delighted that you all have fond memories of our visit. “The hard work and planning certainly seemed to pay off. I’d be delighted to visit. “It would be the very least I can do by way of thanks.”

The talk will be held at the Lunesdale Hall and tickets can be bought from the town’s visitor information shop at 24 Main Street.
