Jess at BBC Studios, London

written by Ana on 22 April 2014

Jessica Brown-Findlay wears open-toed sandals while heading out of MediaCityUk after her appearance on BBC Breakfast in London, England on Thursday afternoon (April 17). The 24-year-old actress chatted up her new BBC mini-series, Jamaica Inn.

“The gothic side of Jamaica Inn excited me. I’ve always loved things like ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Jane Eyre’ where you see the darkness of how people react in really forbidding landscapes,” she recently shared with Telegraph.

Jessica added, “There is an incestuousness to the story. Joss wants to protect her deep down, but he’s also a sexual threat. Mary has to show him she’s no pushover and he sort of respects that. Ultimately she holds up a mirror to him, makes him see who he really is….I wasn’t looking for anything fluffy. So often you read a script and the women are just sitting there reading a book or doing a tapestry. But these women go out and do something. There is a fearlessness to them.”

Downton Abbey Costumes at Nuneaton Musuem

written by Ana on 15 July 2013

Costumes worn on the hit TV series Downton Abbey are now on show at Nuneaton Musuem.

The collection includes a purple gown worn by Dame Maggie Smith in her role as the grumpy Dowager Countess of Grantham, while also on show are a daring “pantaloon” outfit of Lady Sybil (Jessica Brown-Findlay), the engagement frock of her sister Mary (Michelle Dockery) and an evening suit donned by Dan Stevens in his role as Matthew.

Representing the “downstairs” servants is a dress worn by Mrs Hughes the housekeeper and the uniform of Anna the maid.

Coun Ian Lloyd, portfolio holder for leisure and culture said: “We always aim to bring high quality exhibits to our museum that will be of interest to a broad range of visitors. This is certain to be one of our most popular exhibitions this year.”

Entry to the museum is free and the exhibition continues until September 15.

Jessica Brown Findlay: ‘I didn’t want to discover that Lady Sybil was the only part I could play’

written by Michelle on 25 March 2013

Although it is not so long since Jessica Brown Findlay left Downton Abbey, she is rarely recognised as Lady Sybil, the character she played on the show to such heartbreaking effect.

Minus the corsetry, the satin and pearls, and without the background effects of chinking china and the bowing and scraping of servants, she is surprisingly like any other 23-year-old.

Of course, she is a particularly beautiful one, dressed today at her publicist’s London office in a simple striped T-shirt and jeans, her hair, tinged with red, flowing.

“The only time I’ve been sort of recognised was in the States,” she says. “I was working on an independent movie called Lullaby in which I play a New York Jewish lawyer. To get the accent right, I decided not to drop it, even when I wasn’t working.

“I was in a coffee shop and someone said to me, ‘You sound just like an American Lady Sybil!’. I nearly died – how embarrassing to admit that you’re walking around pretending to be an American! I thought: ‘Oh God, no. You’re a proper actor now.”

Sadly, Miss Emily VanCamp, who stars in the television program “Revenge,” has beaten Jessica to the female lead in the upcoming comic book flick, “Captain America 2: the Winter Soldier.” Alison Brie (“Mad Men”) and Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) were also strongly considered for the role. Nevermind Jess, I’m sure something even better is around the corner…

Downton Abbey’s Dramatic Plot Turn?

written by Ana on 29 January 2013

How seriously do TV viewers take what happens to the Crawleys and those in their sphere on Downton Abbey?

So seriously that, as the series’ creator and writer Julian Fellowes recently admitted to PEOPLE, he even gets yelled at “a bit” by members of the public when something they dislike takes place on the show.

“And they know it all,” the Oscar- and Emmy-winner, 63, said about the public’s reaction. “They have opinions that are better than mine.”

SPOILER ALERT: Details of Sunday’s broadcast are about to be revealed at People.com
