The two will play Eric Draven and Shelly, respectively. Here’s some solid casting: Jack Huston and Jessica Brown Findlay will star in the upcoming remake of The Crow. As Variety reports, Huston, best known for portraying the scarred Richard Harrow in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, will play the film’s titular hero, Eric Draven. While Findlay has been cast as his ill-fated lover, Shelly.

Based on James O’Barr’s epic graphic novel, the story takes place on Devil’s Night, when Eric Draven and his fiancee Shelly are horrifically murdered at the hands of a merciless gang. A year later, Draven rises from the dead to enact his revenge upon his own killers, taking them out one by one as the crow follows near.

The original 1994 film, directed by Alex Proyas, was marred in tragedy when its leading star Brandon Lee was shot on set from what was supposed to be a prop gun. Nevertheless, the film became a cult classic and spawned several sequels and even a television series.

The upcoming reboot has been in development hell for almost a decade. Originally, it was a project for director Stephen Norington (Blade), and then Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), and then F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall). The lead role was similarly juggled around between the likes of Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, Alexander Skarsgaard, Tom Hiddleston, Norman Reedus, and most recently, Luke Evans.

Currently, director Corin Hardy (The Hallow) and screenwriter Cliff Dorfman (Warrior) are attached to the project. Filming is to begin later this year.

Carnaby’s AFM slate includes new acquisitions Everything Carries Me To You, which has Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Matthew Rhys, Kate Walsh and Freddie Fox attached to star.

The romantic drama, currently in pre-production, follows an ambitious young dancer whose world is turned upside down when she discovers a note suggesting her lover may be cheating.

Emma Holly Jones (Dreams Play Apart) is attached to direct with Hilary Shor (The Paperboy) on board to produce.

Director Toby Tobias’ thriller Blood Orange, starring Ben Lamb and musician Iggy Pop and executive produced by former Miramax executive Colin Vaines (Gangs of New York), is currently shooting in Spain.

Thomas Campbell, the artist who courted Jessica Brown Findlay for two years, says the leaked footage of the actress is a ‘huge invasion of privacy’.

After Jessica Brown Findlay was targeted in the celebrity phone hacking this month, leaked footage of her with an unidentified man appeared online.

Now her ex-boyfriend Thomas Campbell has spoken out in support of the former Downton Abbey actress. “It was a huge invasion of privacy, I feel really sorry for her,” the artist, who courted Jessica for two years, tells me at the Phototaxis Cob Gallery at Blacks. “The video was nothing to do with me, I haven’t even seen it. But I do hope that anybody who sees it understands that grown adults do stuff for them that they don’t expect the world to see.”

“Anyone’s private love messages whether they are visual or just text is always embarrassing if a third party sees or reads it. You don’t even want your best mate to see your girlfriend in that way.” The pair met while they were both students at Central St Martins College of Art.

Lone Scherfig’s The Riot Club was announced as part of the Toronto Film Festival lineup this morning.

Starring Holliday Grainger, Douglas Booth, Natalie Dormer, Jessica Brown Findlay, Sam Claflin, Max Irons and Sam Reid the film centers on two first-year students at Oxford University who join the infamous Riot Club, where reputations can be made or destroyed over the course of a single evening.

The movie is described as “a scathing dissection of the British class system” and the TIFF screening will serve as its world premiere.

The trailer was released a little while ago, but it missed our news beat, so here it is, along with the official synopsis:

As Paul McGuigan puts the finishing touches on his version of the Frankenstein tale, starring James McAvoy, Daniel Radcliffe and Jessica Brown Findlay, it’s picked up both a new title and a new synopsis.

20th Century Fox revealed this morning that McGuigan’s Frankenstein is now going by the title Victor Frankenstein. That name ought to please the sticklers who are always smugly pointing out that Frankenstein is the name of the doctor, not the monster.

Despite the title, Victor Frankenstein is really Igor’s tale. Here’s the official synopsis:

James McAvoy is Victor Von Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe stars as Igor in a unique, never-before-seen twist on Mary Shelley’s classic 19th century novel. Told from Igor’s perspective, we see the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Victor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man—and the legend—we know today.

Frankenstein and his monster were originally creations of novelist Mary Shelley, but Igor wasn’t conceived until Universal adapted Shelley’s book into a film series in the ’30s. He’s cropped up in many other forms and in many other places since then, but the Max Landis-scripted Victor Frankenstein is the rare retelling to put Igor front and center.

Victor Frankenstein has been in the works for a few years already. Shawn Levy was set to direct at one point, but at some point that job shifted over to McGuigan. The film was originally supposed to open in fall 2014, then early 2015, and now it’s scheduled for October 2, 2015.
