Thomas Campbell, the artist who courted Jessica Brown Findlay for two years, says the leaked footage of the actress is a ‘huge invasion of privacy’.

After Jessica Brown Findlay was targeted in the celebrity phone hacking this month, leaked footage of her with an unidentified man appeared online.

Now her ex-boyfriend Thomas Campbell has spoken out in support of the former Downton Abbey actress. “It was a huge invasion of privacy, I feel really sorry for her,” the artist, who courted Jessica for two years, tells me at the Phototaxis Cob Gallery at Blacks. “The video was nothing to do with me, I haven’t even seen it. But I do hope that anybody who sees it understands that grown adults do stuff for them that they don’t expect the world to see.”

“Anyone’s private love messages whether they are visual or just text is always embarrassing if a third party sees or reads it. You don’t even want your best mate to see your girlfriend in that way.” The pair met while they were both students at Central St Martins College of Art.

Jessica Brown Findlay has been cast in a new two-part adaptation of Sadie Jones’s The Outcast on BBC One.

Jones has based the script on her own Costa First Novel Award-winning book. The 2×90 minute drama also stars George Mackay, Greg Wise and Hattie Morahan.

It will be produced by Blueprint Pictures and directed by Iain Softley.

Head of BBC Films Christine Langan said: “The Outcast is a captivating and heart-breaking story of a young man’s desperate situation.

“I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to work with BBC One to bring a two-part adaptation to screen to retain the essence of Sadie Jones’s award-winning novel.”

Mackay plays Lewis, who is 10 years old when his mother Elizabeth (Morahan) dies, leaving him his father Gilbert (Wise) who he barely knows.

Gilbert remarries Alice (Brown Findlay), while Lewis relies on his friendships with neighbouring children Tamsin and Kit (Daisy Bevan and Jessica Barden).

The Outcast is described as “a deeply romantic, uncomfortably honest coming-of-age story set in booming post-war Britain”.

Former Dowton Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay is the latest star to be linked to the large-scale celebrity hacking scandal.

A spokesperson for the star told The Telegraph that Brown Findlay appears in stolen video clips, with her lawyer commenting that the leak is “a serious violation of her rights” , causing her “extreme distress and embarrassment.”

Dan Stevens, who appeared alongside the actress in ITV’s Downton Abbey, said he was “really feeling” for his former co-star and criticised the “despicable behaviour” of the hackers perpetrating these invasions of privacy.

Speaking during a live webchat on The Guardian website, he said: “I’m really feeling for her [Brown Findlay] this week as she fell victim to some pretty despicable behaviour, not only on the part of this strange new breed of hacker, but also the press and this pathetic culture of clickbaiting.

“We’re at a crucial crossroads where we need to examine our online moral and ethical practice and align it much more with our ‘real life’ conscience.”

So far, nude photos of over 100 celebrities have been leaked online following an alleged iCloud leak.

Other names which have been linked to the incident include Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Kim Kardashian, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Kirsten Dunst. Selena Gomez, Kate Upton and Ariana Grande.

Brown Findlay is best known for playing Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey and recently starred in the BBC’s adaptation of Jamaica Inn.

Last night saw the premiere of Jess’ Jamaica Inn. We have screencaped it and added x875 photos to the gallery. The Times gave it 4 stars! The telegraph said it was “too self-conscious” with only 2 stars, The Guardian said “It was a towering achievement”, we loved it and thought Jess was as always superb!
