Britain’s BBC says it will broadcast in 2018 the stage production of Hamlet, starring Sherlock alum Andrew Scott as the title character.

Angus Wright plays Claudius, Jessica Brown Findlay plays Ophelia and Juliet Stevenson plays Gertrude.

Directed by Robert Icke and based on the classic work by William Shakespeare, the play transferred to the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre for a limited season following a sell-out run at the Almeida this year. It will wrap at the Harold Pinter Theatre on Sept. 2.

“Andrew Scott’s Hamlet is utterly thrilling. His performance makes each familiar word of the play feel like it is being newly discovered. The staging in a modern-day Denmark makes for a startlingly resonant and challenging production. I am delighted that it is coming to BBC Two,” Patrick Holland, controller of BBC Two, said in a statement.

“It has been a real joy to work with such a gifted and dedicated company of actors on bringing this most-famous play to audiences in 2017. The production has been on a wonderful journey from the Almeida to the West End, and I am very much looking forward to this next step on BBC Two. To be able to offer our version of Hamlet to as wide and diverse an audience as possible has always been of paramount importance to us, and now we are thrilled to be able to bring it to people across the country,” Icke added.

Set in 1820 against the forbidding backdrop of windswept Cornish moors, the story follows the journey of young and spirited Mary (Brown Findlay) who is forced to live with her Aunt Patience after the death of her mother. Mary arrives at the isolated Jamaica Inn to discover her Aunt is a shell of the carefree woman she remembers from her childhood, and instead finds a drudge who is firmly under the spell of her domineering husband Joss.

BBC One has debuted a new trailer for upcoming drama Jamaica Inn

The promo sees Downton Abbey star Jessica Brown Findlay take on the role of Mary in the period drama.

Set in 1820s Cornwall, Jamaica Inn follows Mary as she is drawn into a world of smuggling and romance.

Matthew McNulty (Misfits), Sean Harris (Southcliffe) and Ben Daniels (House of Cards) will also star in the adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s novel, penned by The White Queen’s Emma Frost.

The series – which began filming in Cornwall, Yorkshire and Cumbria last September – also stars Joanne Whalley (Gossip Girl) and Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter).

Scriptwriter Frost said: “I love Daphne du Maurier’s novels and it’s been a lifelong dream to adapt Jamaica Inn.

“I hope I have done justice to this wonderful tale of morality, survival and desire.

“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to adapt it for the screen, and I’m tremendously excited to see how our talented cast and director bring the scripts to life.”

Jessica Brown Findlay’s new TV show might be a period drama, but that’s where all comparisons with Downton end. In upcoming BBC series Jamaica Inn – adapted from the novel by Daphne Du Maurier – Brown Findlay will star as feisty heroine Mary Yellan living on a bleak 1820s Cornish coast. The drama, which will air at Easter – will also star Matthew McNulty (The Paradise) and Ben Daniels (House of Cards).

This year is set to be a very busy one for Ms Brown Findlay. In September she’ll appear in the hotly tipped big screen adaptation of the play Posh with Sam Claflin and Douglas Booth (lucky girl), followed by Frankenstein with James McAvoy and TV drama Lullaby with Amy Adams. Welcome back Jessica!

We have added x3 new promotional stills from Jamaica Inn to the galleries …

We found one (very small) promotional pic of Jess for BBC’s Jamaica Inn 3 part series.

Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) and Matthew McNulty (The Paradise) take on Daphne du Maurier’s classic novel, which comes to BBC1 this summer. In 1930, after a visit to the Jamaica Inn on Bodmin moor, du Maurier came away compelled to write a dark and eerie tale of smugglers and murderers in the 1820s. The result? The tale of Mary Yellan (Brown Findlay), an orphan who goes to live with her aunt (Joanne Whalley) and brutish husband (Southcliffe’s Sean Harris), the landlord of the Inn. Why are there never any guests? And who can Mary trust?
